If you haven’t figured it out yet, there are spammers everywhere trying to promote their websites or others for money. They create sites that have 100’s to 1000’sf links that refer to their original site. Search engines such as Google put your site in their search result depending on a few unknown factors; but we know that one of those factors is how many links refer to your website. The more links to your website, the higher you’ll be in the search results. That’s SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for you folks. Now spamming helps your site get higher search results but gives you a risk of getting the death penalty by Google (meaning they’ll ban your site from showing up on their web searches). The interesting part is that spamming is hundred percent legal. Now when major commercial websites do this they will earn lots of online shoppers and get lots advertisement revenues, but the risk is very high and they can gain lots of money and lose lots of money. An example is in 2006 BMW’s German website did a similar thing and got banned from Google. This was catastrophic for them but they had to start all over again by changing the name of the site and lots of other technical stuff just to get back to square one. Most recently The New York Times caught J.C. Penny doing something similar. Click on he link below to read more about it. But keep in mind everything I said when you read this article; it will give you a better understanding of the situation.
